Muscle Tech, the company that manufactures HydroxyCut Hardcore, has spent big dollars advertising this product far and wide (are you as tired of 8-page ads disguised as unbiased supplement commentary as I am?). If you've picked up a magazine anytime in the last few years, chances are you've run into an ad for HydroxyCut products. As such, it's really not surprising it's one of the best recognized names among fat burners.
FDA bans the sale of HYDROXYCUT
WASHINGTON -- Consumers should "immediately stop" using Hydroxycut weight-loss products amid concerns they may cause jaundice and liver failure, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Friday.
The FDA has received 23 serious reports of health problems with Hydroxycut products and one death in a 19-year-old male who had used the weight-loss products, said Linda Katz, interim chief medical officer in the FDA's food safety and nutrition division.
The FDA strongly advises people against using 14 Hydroxycut products, Ms. Katz said. Iovate Health Sciences Inc. of Canada markets the products, also known as dietary supplements, as fat burners and energy-enhancers. Iovate representatives couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
The company has agreed to recall 14 of its Hydroxycut products. Other Hydroxycut products, such as Hydroxycut Cleanse and Hoodia, won't be recalled as the FDA said they contain different ingredients from the other products.
Vasilios Frankos, director of the FDA's dietary supplement program, said it's still unclear what ingredients in the products are harmful. The FDA is trying to get a better understanding of what ingredients, or combination of ingredients, is causing the liver damage. Other dietary supplements may contain similar ingredients.
The FDA recommends people call their physicians if they are worried about any damage caused by the products.
Proactol has no ingredients in common with hydroxycut and is a clinically proven safe diet pill for effective weight loss
Their first product contained Ephedra and was taken off the market when Ephedra was banned by the FDA. Can't find any reliable information as to why Ephedra Free HydroxyCut was taken off the shelves but looking at users reviews (more like complaints) Iit's no suprise that it's gone.

Now, Hydroxycut Hardcore is essentially a caffeine pill with some “proprietary blends” thrown in. Hydroxycut Hardcore contains a ALOT of caffeine. Each suggested dosage has the equivalent of over 3 cups of coffee. So if you could be sensitive to caffeine, steer clear of Hydroxycut Hardcore.
“Proprietary Blend” is what companies do to mask the amount of each ingredient that is included in the product. This has both it positives and negatives. The positives are that you get to see what is in the pill, the negatives are you really don't know how much of these ingredients are actually in the pill. So companies may just include a tiny amount of those ingredients in the product to give us that “wow” factor. Our guess is that with the amount of caffeine contained in Hydroxycut Hardcore, this is exactly what they do.
Well, let's take a look at the ingredients. we won't go into detail about the ingredients in the Hydroxycut Hardcore “proprietary blend” because there aren't enough of them to be effective, but I will talk about the Caffeine, Green Tea, and Yohimbe.
Caffeine & Green Tea – The amounts of these ingredients will increase your metabolism, energy along with your heart rate, anxiety level which will most likely to give you a stomach ache and the jitters. Some people like that feeling some don't.
Yohimbe – There is no documentation or studies done that show that Yohimbe encourages weight loss. There have been studies done that show that Yohimbe may have a negative side effect on nursing or pregnant women, people with high blood pressure or kidney disease.
Overall, Hydroxycut Hardcore contains a potent amount of Caffeine and Green Tea, which are shown to be an effective fat burner when combined. If you are concerned with any of the side effects mentioned below, I would stay away from this product. The main thing that Hydroxycut Hardcore has going for it is the name.
