Give Children the Gift of Health

"Get your children off the couch
and involve them into productive physical activity"

More and more children are suffering from obesity.  If this trend continues, the next generation of adults may face alarming health issues.  Childhood obesity is a ticking time bomb, and the need for a proper program to address this problem is more important now than ever.  Parents need to know that they have a big responsibility in keeping their children’s health under control, and now that the new year is fast approaching, the big day can be a perfect opportunity to commit to a healthy weight loss program for their kids.

Obesity among children can lead to a host of complications, which become more severe as they grow up and mature into adults.  Your child may only be overweight, but there is a thin line between the two conditions and the child may easily cross the threshold; unless they get the encouragement and the drive to change their eating habits.  More often than not, the school cafeteria is the culprit; the meal plans usually include food which was either immersed in a deep fryer or sautéed in oil, maybe even dabbled in sweeteners or syrup.  There is also the problem of the vending machine.  These are unnecessary evils, which only add to the problem rather than address it.

As a parent, you may feel powerless against all these variable obstacles to your child’s health.  The good news is that you can do something about it.  You can begin a proper diet and weight loss program for your kid, with measures beginning in your own home.  If you are in need of weight loss yourself, now is the time to set an example.  Research shows that the child’s risk of becoming obese is higher if they have overweight or obese parents.  Childhood obesity is a result of nutritional, psychological, social, and physiological factors, and you need to do your part.  The holiday season is the perfect time to start.  Instead of going with the usual gorge feast, opt for a healthier alternative.  The change may initially be a shock, but keep in mind that it is done for the child’s welfare, which is enough motivation to push it through.

Don’t procrastinate.  Get your children off the couch and involve them into productive physical activity.  Go on a nature hike or chuck a football around the yard, stick to a routine jog around the block every morning.  Whatever it takes to get the child sweating and moving, do it.  Clean out your refrigerator from all the junk snacks and unhealthy food which may tempt the child to go on a binge.  Do away with TV dinners and super-sized fast food takeouts.  Obesity begins when children sit on the couch all day, doing nothing but flipping on a remote and munching away at potato chips.

Diet pills may be one of the options which you are keeping at the back of your mind. It is important that you thoroughly consult with your child’s pediatrician first; diet pills may be needed to help in modifying in child’s eating habits.  Otherwise, self-administering the pills on your child may do more harm than good.

Give your children the gift of health, free from the complications which obesity may cause in the future.
