Cortislim is a dietary supplement which has a rather backhanded approach with the weight loss goal; instead of trying to increase the metabolic rate of the body, or decrease the buildup of fat deposits, the product intends to help the body lose weight by
regulating the level of production of cortisol, a hormone which increases in the system as the body’s response to stress. The makers of cortislim maintains that the main reason for weight gain is stress, and a maintenance of the body’s natural reaction to stressful situations is necessary for controlling weight gain; this is based on the premise that an increase in levels of cortisol results in the accumulation of fat.
How Cortislim works
Cortislim’s supposed effectiveness cannot be discussed without an initial understanding of the cortisol hormone, upon which the product’s weight loss claims are founded. Cortisol is also known as the stress hormone; it is a pivotal component connected to the body’s reaction to stress and stressful situations, especially in dire, ‘fight or flight’ scenarios. In itself, cortisol is essential for normal physical functioning, and is beneficial to the body in small, regulated doses.
But in situations of imminent danger, either through a threat which is physical or psychological in nature, cortisol is produced in higher levels in order to help the body cope with the urgency through, a sudden burst of energy, resulting in physiological changes which equip the body with the capability of confronting the danger head-on, or to run away from it. When the threat disappears, the body should relax, and its functions should revert back to normal. But in extreme situations, this relaxed state is never achieved, and the body keeps the cortisol levels at an increased amount; in this situation does cortisol pose a health risk to the body. One side effect which is a result of this is an unexpected and oftentimes unwanted gain in weight, particularly on the abdominal area. Fat deposits on the midsection have been proven to have serious adverse effects on the health, leading to cardiovascular disease, and problems with other internal organs.
Ingredients of Cortislim
Cortislim is a compound of natural vitamins and minerals, and herbal extracts: Vitamin C in the form of calcium ascorbate, Chromium in the form of chromium polynicotinate, Calcium in the form of calcium carbonate and calcium ascorbate; a controlled proprietary blend of Cortiplex Cortisol, which contains extract from the bark of the magnolia (magnolia officialis), forty percent concentrate of honokiol, L theanine, and beta sististerol; a thermogenic blend of leptiplex, which contains extract from Green Tea leaves (camellia sinensis) of forty percent EGCG concentration, extract of Panax Ginseng, and citrus aurantium; a controlled blend of insutrol glucose, containing extract of the banaba leaf (or agerstroemia speciosa), one percent of corosolic acid, and vanadyl sulfate, which contains 5 mcg of vanadium; and product stabilizing ingredients such as silicone dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose, water, gelatin, and magnesium stearate.
The most potent component of the Cortislim pill is the extract from the magnolia bark, which is standardized to come up with the compound called ‘honokiol.’ Small doses of this substance, or of the standardization of magnolia bark to end up in such, are potentially of use in the de-stressing of the body, without the eventual drowsy side effect; large doses on the other hand has the end result of rendering the user unconscious. If this substance is compared to market drugs, like Valium or diazepam for example, honokiol apparently is efficient as an anti-anxiety substance, but is not potent enough to be a qualified sedative.
This de-stressing result is also apparently supported by various studies on animal specimens; this does not readily mean, however, that it is equally effective with humans, but the results are promising. Although the honokiol component of the magnolia bark extract is an efficient anxiolytic agent, there is no supporting evidence which proves that it is able to reduce cortisol levels in the body. The remaining major components of the compound chromium, vanadyl, green tea extract, and banaba leaf extract all have their uses in stabilizing the body’s blood sugar levels, and also in regulating insulin reaction. The notable ingredient is citrus aurantium, which comes from the extract of bitter orange, and is standardized for achieving synephrine. Synephrine is similar in effect to the notorious ephedra compound, known for its health risks, leading to heart problems and stroke.

Testimonial accounts on Effectiveness
Testimonial accounts concerning Cortislim’s effectiveness as a weight loss supplement are at best polarized. Some users attest to its potency and benefits; in some instances stress relief accompanies the loss of excess weight, probably due to the product’s relaxing after effects. Others report that Cortislim’s effects are adverse, resulting in weight gain, or even making users severely ill as consequence of intake.
The Real Score on Cortislim
Cortislim may have beneficial effects in reducing stress, through the potency of the magnolia bark extract, but to say that it reduces cortisol production in the body, let alone that it causes the user to eventually lose weight, is a bit of a stretch from the truth. Cortislim deliberately overlooks that there are a lot of factors which are connected to weight gain, and specifically asserts that stress is the main culprit of the fat buildup. Although stress may lead to a tendency to go on a food binge, most cases of weight gain are results of inactivity and an intake of too much calories more than anything else. The producers of Cortislim also does not mention the fact that although the cortisol hormone does encourage the accumulation of fat, it only happens as a consequence of specific medication treatments which the user is going through, or if the user has a condition of hormonal imbalance. Normal people, even if they are stressed, do not ever produce enough cortisol to the point that it triggers weight gain.
Since there is no FDA approval for the claims of the Cortisol supplement, the potency of the ingredients is basically questionable. In fact, health experts are at a consensus that this product doesn’t even include any ingredient which affects cortisol levels in the body. In connection with this, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission has filed a lawsuit against the makers of Cortisol in October 2004, asserting that the marketing pitch of the supplement was based on false and basically unsubstantiated claims concerning weight loss, and the promises of such to customers were exaggerated.
Cortislim’s premise of a magical pill which is the cure for weight loss takes advantage of the dilemma of today’s lifestyle that of the fast-paced and weight-conscious mentality of modern society. This is probably the main component of Cortislim’s appeal, a two-in-one solution to stress and weight gain. While this premise is harmless at first glance, it underscores the dangerous assumption that losing weight is easy. In fact, the product treats the mention of a complementary diet and exercise program only as an afterthought, making it that much more attractive to dieters who want to lose weight without getting off of the couch.
At best, Cortislim has potential for its relaxing benefit, but if the user intends to use the pill for losing weight, one piece of advice is in order: nothing beats a healthy diet and a good exercise program in burning the excess calories and fat in the body.
